AlphaRet, AlphaRet Intensive & AlphaRet Clearing Serum – what’s the difference?

Skinbetter Science is a brand we have been carrying for around 2 years now and had lots of great feedback from our clients. A question we get asked a lot is what’s the difference between the 3 AlphaRet Serums and do I need to use them all?

Firstly, what is AlphaRet?

AlphaRet is a patented technology that successfully combines a retinoid and an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) for effective and tolerable skin rejuvenation. It addresses skin-ageing concerns with this revolutionary double conjugated retinoid. The ingredient is called Ethyl lactyl retinoate and is a proprietary blend of lactic acid and retinoids that provides exfoliation and boosts collagen production.

AlphaRet Range

There are 3 night time serums in the AlphaRet range:

  • AlphaRet Overnight Cream
  • Intensive AlphaRet Overnight Cream
  • AlphaRet Clearing Serum

The ingredients between the 3 are very similar and only slight elements change to make them more suited to certain skin types/concerns. Therefore, only 1 AlphaRet serum is needed in your skincare routine.

So, how to chose between the 3?

The difference between the AlphaRet and Intensive AlphaRet is the order/potency of the Sodium Glycolate (salt of Glycolic Acid) and Glycolic Acid. In the Intensive version the Glycolic Acid comes before the Sodium Gyycolate  to make the formulation more intensive where as in the AlphaRet it is Sodium Glycolic followed by Glycolic Acid. All ingredients thereafter are exactly the same and in the exact same order too.

This swap between the Glycolic Acid means that AlphaRet has around 10% concentration versus around 18% in the Intensive.

The AlphaRet Clearing Serum is a much newer addition to the range. This still contains the patented AlphaRet -Retinoid and Lactic Acid combination, but this product contains no Glycolic Acid and instead is formulated with BHA salicylic acid.

Which product is best for me?

We do recommend a consultation to assess your skin type, condition and concerns to work out which AlphaRet serum would be best suited to you. To give you a brief outline:
