Eyebrows are important for facial Definition- why?

  1. Frame the Face
  • Eyebrows act like a natural frame, helping to balance the proportions of your face
  • Well-shaped brows can make your face appear more symmetrical, which is often associated with beauty
  1. Enhance Expression
  • Eyebrows are key to non-verbal communication- they help express emotions like surprise, anger….
  • Subtle changes in brow shape can dramatically alter your perceived mood or character
  1. Draw Attention to the Eyes
  • Defined brows emphasize the eyes, making them appear larger and more open
  • A good brow shape lifts the eye area, giving a more youthful, alert appearance
  1. Correct or Enhance Face Shape
  • Brow shaping can soften a strong jawline, elongate a round face and add balance to asymmetrical features

Your eyebrows are one of the most powerful features on your face, investing in their shape, health and grooming is one of the easiest ways to enhance your natural beauty.

Tips: for natural eyebrow care

  • Avoid over plucking or over waxing
  • Let your natural brow shape grow in before reshaping
  • Over tweezing can damage follicles and stop hair from growing back

Natural Oils for Growth

  • Coconut oil- nourishes and strengthens hair
  • Olive oil-conditions and improves thickness
  • Argan oil-lightweight and ideal for daily nourishment

Use a clean mascara wand or cotton bud for application

Brush your Brows Regularly

  • Use a brow brush to stimulate blood circulation and keep hairs aligned
  • Brushing helps distribute natural oils evenly and keeps the brows looking full

Exfoliate gently (once a week)

  • Mix honey and sugar or use a soft toothbrush to exfoliate the brow area
  • Removes dead skin cells and encourages hair growth

Use Aloe Vera Gel

  • Soothes skin, reduces irritation from tweezing, apply fresh aloe gel leave 30mins and rinse

Don’t Sleep with Makeup On

  • Always remove brow products before bed to avoid clogging hair follicles and weakening hair

Let them Rest

  • Take breaks from brow makeup, laminations or tinting to let your natural hairs breathe and grow

Eyelashes play an important role in a functional and aesthetic point of view -Why?

  1. Protection
  • Primarily eyelashes are there to protect the eye as they catch dust, small particles and airborne debris before they reach the eye. They also trigger a reflex blink when something touches them helping to prevent injury
  1. Moisture Regulation
  • Lashes reduce the amount of airflow over the surface of the eye. This helps retain moisture and prevents the eyes from drying out
  1. Eye Definition
  • Eyelashes frame the eyes in the same way eyebrows do. They add contrast, accentuate the eye shape and draw attention to the eye are
  1. Youthful and enhanced appearance
  • Full, dark lashes are associated with vitality and youth. As we age, lashes tend to thin and lighten. Therefore, enhancing them (with mascara, tinting etc.) can help create a fresher, more youthful and expressive appearance
  1. Convey emotion and femininity
  • Even small movements of the eyelashes contribute to non-verbal communication and emotional expression. In aesthetics, longer lashes are linked with femininity and softness

If we concentrate more on eyelash shape and length and how these affect facial aesthetics

Longer lashes help create vertical extension of the eye, making the eye appear larger and more open, giving a more awake and youthful look

Curved/upward-lifting lashes-visually lift the eye area, helping to counteract dropping or heaviness in the upper eyelid and improve facial balance

If we have fullness along the lash line it helps to frame the eyes like a natural eye liner, adding contrast and definition. This emphasises the iris and enhances eye colour

To have even, symmetrical lashes this supports facial symmetry, which is a key factor in perceived attractiveness. Uneven or sparse lashes can make the eyes look tired

In facial aesthetics, the eye-to-face ratio is a strong factor of perceived attractiveness. Anything that increases the apparent size of the eyes (including longer or lifted lashes improves that ratio

The vertical lift from curled lashes helps to balance horizontal features (e.g. nose, jawline), creating better overall harmony

Fuller lashes also provide a soft transition between the white of the eye and the skin, which reduces harsh contrasts and makes the eye area more aesthetically pleasing

Tips: Lash treatments are wildly popular but done incorrectly or too often can cause damage to the natural lash. Over-processing the lashes with chemical processes used in services like lash lifts or lash tinting can damage lashes, often making them weak and brittle. Incorrect use of eyelash curlers, improper lash extension application, harsh removers are considerations when undertaking these procedures.

To reduce the potential for irritation when applying eyelash serums, apply a thin line of lash serum on clean, dry upper eyelashes above the lash line once a day. Allow the serum to dry completely for 2-3 minutes before applying additional beauty/cosmetic products.

Remember:  A little of the product goes a long way and over-applying is not necessary or recommended.

* There are certain medical conditions that cause hair loss and effect eye lash and brow growth cycles such as thyroid disorders, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune diseases, alopecia, lupus and impact of illnesses.  A devastating side effect of chemotherapy cancer treatment is often hair loss including eyebrows & lashes causing significant distress emotionally and mentally for the person. In these circumstances it is recommended the root cause is diagnosed and monitoring of illnesses is always with medical professionals.

Our ingredient recommendations:

Growth factor serums work by stimulating the natural hair follicle cycle to encourage longer, thicker and stronger eyelash growth. Eyelashes and brows grow through a normal hair cycle with 3 phases

  1. Anagen (growth phase) where the lash actively grows
  2. Catagen (transition phase) growth stops
  3. Telogen (rest/shedding) phase, lashes fall out and the cycle restarts

Growth factor serums extend the anagen phase and improve follicle function, increasing the time the lashes & brows grow and thickness helping support stronger roots, less hair breakage and premature shedding.

What ingredients are we looking for:

  • Growth Factor Peptides (Myristoyl, Pentapeptide-17, Oligopeptide-10 etc.)- send signals to cells to grow, repair and reproduce
  • Panthenol & Hyaluronic Acid- hydrates and strengthens
  • Plant Extracts (ginseng, red clover, pumpkin seed etc.)- know to strengthen and stimulate growth
  • Biotin (Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H)- supports keratin function being the main structural protein of hair, skin and nails
  • Exosomes- contain proteins, lipids, growth factors and RNA and act as messengers that signal other cells to regenerate and repair
  • Prescription Serum Prostaglandin – Latisse works at hair follicle level to extend the growing phase and helps increase melanin in lash hair making them appear darker

Most eyelash and brow serums on the market combine synthetic peptides (which mimic growth factors) + conditioning ingredients, results are subtle, gradual and can be seen over 10-12 weeks if used daily. These are not prescription medications and are suitable for people with sensitive eyes, recovering from lash extensions and wanting a natural looking improvement.

To distinguish prescription and non-prescription lash & brow serums containing prostaglandins it depends on which prostaglandin ingredient is used and how it is regulated either cosmetic or medical.

Prescription Prostaglandin

Latisse (Bimatoprost 0.03%) a prescription only medication, originally used for glaucoma (as an eye drop), later approved for eyelash growth. It contains a true prostaglandin analog, which actively stimulates lash follicles to grow longer and darker

Requires a prescription in UK, US & EU

Non-Prescription Prostaglandin

Many cosmetic lash and brow serums contain prostaglandin-mimicking ingredients, see below.

  • Isopropyl Cloprostenate
  • Dechloro Dihydroxy Difluoro Ethycloprostenolamide
  • Tripeptide-1 prostaglandin

These ingredients are chemically similar and act in a similar way yet are blended into cosmetic formulations and sold over the counter. Important awareness is to know that you are still using a drug-like compound.

Caution: Using prostaglandins may cause side -effects such as darkening of the eyelid skin, irritation/eye redness, itchy eyes and temporary lash changes (uneven growth, lashes growing in wrong direction- rare yet permanent iris pigmentation (brown darkening of the coloured part of the eye, especially in hazel/green eyes). On all serums we recommend doing a patch test first.
